LCFC shocked the football world when they won the Premier League in 2015 – 16. The Foxes had barely escaped relegation the season before and were 5000/1 outsiders for the title. It was the highlight of their 132 year history.
Founded as Leicester Fosse in 1884, they joined the Football League in 1894 after moving to their former home Filbert Street three years before. The club’s previous peak had been in 1928 – 29 when they finished runners-up in the old First Division.
The club has one of the unluckiest Wembley records. They have lost six times at the home of English football, including a record four times in the FA Cup final. They have won the Football League Cup three times, two of which were held at Wembley – it’s not always a bad place for them!
England’s 1966 World Cup winning goalkeeper, Gordon Banks played for Leicester and was followed in goal by Peter Shilton. Other notable players include Gary Lineker, England internationals Alan Smith and Emile Heskey, as well as N’Golo Kante. While they were disappointed with the 2016/17 Premier League season, their dreams continued in the Champions League. Quarter-finalists, losing narrowly to Atletico Madrid on penalties, the Foxes claimed notable scalps along the way. Bruges, Porto, Sevilla; they all fell to Leicester. Claudio Ranieri is gone but Craig Shakespeare is reinvigorating the squad; can they do it again? You wouldn't bet against it. The current squad includes Jamie Vardy, Islam Slimani – the club’s record signing – and Riyad Mahrez.

Leading Goalscorer
Arthur Chandler, 273 goals in 419 appearances Chandler joined the Foxes in 1923 and remains Leicester City’s top goalscorer in the First Division / Premier League as well as in league football. He jointly holds the record for most goals in one game, six, versus Portsmouth in 1928 and set a club record of playing 118 consecutive games. Add in the small matter of 5 goals on three occasions, four and twelve hat-tricks, all still club records. He was one of the finest forwards in the club’s history and rounded his career at Filbert Street off by becoming the club’s oldest goalscorer with his last goal against Wolves when he was 39 years old.
Greatest Moment
7th May 2016, King Power Stadium. Following a 3 – 1 win over Everton, Wes Morgan brought tears to the eyes of many Leicester City supporters when he lifted the Premier League trophy above his head. Just three defeats in 2015/16 season – two at the hands of Arsenal – meant that the 5000/1 outsiders were Premier League champions. Perhaps the last great footballing fairy tale.
