Espanyol are used to being in the shadow of their illustrious city neighbours, but there is nothing they enjoy more than a win in El Derbi, of putting a hole in Barcelona dreams. The RCDE stadium has been the club’s home since 2009 replacing the club’s spiritual home, Estadio de Sarria, which closed its doors a decade earlier. It’s a football tourist’s dream, being on the same metro line as the Sagrada Familia. A relaxing morning’s sightseeing followed by an afternoon or evening at the football? That’s the life. Everything about getting to the stadium is convenient; close to the Ferrocarrils overland train, while the Tram is also nearby. For the car driver, it’s a long throw-in from the motorway. And when you are there, it’s a fantastic modern stadium. Comfortable and welcoming, the club’s fortunes are rising and so are attendances in the 40,500-capacity stadium. Make sure you don’t miss out on spending time with Barcelona’s other club in the world’s most popular city.
